Magic City

Birmingham may be one of America's most controversial cities.
Venture out of the city with trips to Carnegie Visual Arts Center (in Decatur), U.S. Space and Rocket Center (in Huntsville) and Unclaimed Baggage (in Scottsboro). There's still lots to do: examine the collection at Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, admire the masterpieces at Legacy Museum, pause for some photo ops at National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and make a trip to Alabama Veterans Memorial Park.

For photos, where to stay, and tourist information, read our Birmingham tour itinerary site.

New York City to Birmingham is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 1 hour traveling from New York City to Birmingham. While traveling from New York City, expect somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Birmingham, ranging from highs of 87°F to lows of 66°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 19th (Thu) to allow enough time to drive to Orange Beach.

Orange Beach

Orange Beach exists solely as a tourist beach town, with a permanent population of less than 6,000.
Get out of town with these interesting Orange Beach side-trips: Battleship USS ALABAMA (in Mobile), Tolstoy Park (in Fairhope) and Fort Morgan State Historic Site (in Fort Morgan). There's still lots to do: get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, browse the exhibits of Holmes Medical Museum, take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports, and get to know the resident critters at Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo.

Start your trip to Orange Beach by creating a personalized itinerary on Inspirock.

You can drive from Birmingham to Orange Beach in 5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of bus and car; or fly. In September, plan for daily highs up to 86°F, and evening lows to 69°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 22nd (Sun) to allow time to travel back home.
