The City of Lights and Flowers

Home to nearly half of Alaska's population, the port city of Anchorage covers a staggering area of over 4,900 sq km (1,900 sq mi) surrounded by mountains.
On the 2nd (Fri), get a dose of the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: don't miss a visit to Turnagain Arm, steep yourself in history at Indian Valley Mine & Gifts, and then cruise along Seward Hwy.

Columbia to Anchorage is an approximately 12-hour flight. You can also drive. The time zone difference when traveling from Columbia to Anchorage is minus 4 hours. In September, Anchorage is cooler than Columbia - with highs of 57°F and lows of 44°F. You will have some time to spend on the 4th (Sun) before leaving for Fairbanks.

The Golden Heart City

With its strip malls and fast-food restaurants, Fairbanks appears a bit functional on first glance.
Let the collections at Two Street Gallery LLC and Fairbanks Community Museum capture your imagination. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Angel Rocks Trail and Wedgewood Wildlife Sanctuary. Change things up with a short trip to The Knotty Shop in Delta Junction (about 56 minutes away). There's still lots to do: indulge your thirst for a good beer at HooDoo Brewing Company, make a trip to Antler Arch, admire the natural beauty at Georgeson Botanical Garden, and gain insight at University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Fly from Anchorage to Fairbanks in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Expect slightly colder evenings in Fairbanks when traveling from Anchorage in September, with lows around 36°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 7th (Wed) early enough to go by car to Chena Hot Springs.
