Carmel-by-the-Sea, often simply called Carmel, is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. Start off your visit on the 16th (Mon): hike along Scenic Road Walkway, admire the landmark architecture of Tor House, admire the architecture and history at San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo Mission, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Carmel Mission, and finally stroll through China Cove and Gibson Beach.

Los Angeles to Carmel is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of flight and shuttle. When you arrive in tiny San Simeon, which lies halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, you can see why William Randolph Hearst chose this coastal locale for his famous hilltop castle.
Start off your visit on the 17th (Tue): admire the majestic nature at Leffingwell Landing, take in the dramatic natural features at Jade Cove, hike along Pacific Valley Bluff Trail, then look for gifts at Sebastian General Store, and finally do a tasting at Hearst Ranch Winery. Keep things going the next day: explore the different monuments and memorials at Cambria Cemetery, trek along Bluff Trail, and then do a tasting at Harmony Cellars.
