Trinidad — 1 night

Trinidad is a seaside city in Humboldt County, located on the Pacific Ocean 8mi north of the Arcata-Eureka Airport and 15mi north of the college town of Arcata. Kick off your visit on the 15th (Sun): tour the pleasant surroundings at Moonstone Beach and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Big Lagoon County Park. Keep things going the next day: kick back and relax at Trinidad State Beach, then enjoy the sand and surf at College Cove, and then take in the dramatic natural features at Camel Rock.

San Diego to Trinidad is an approximately 6-hour combination of flight and car. You can also drive. In August, Trinidad is slightly colder than San Diego - with highs of 64°F and lows of 52°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Mon) to allow time to drive to San Francisco.

San Francisco is a top holiday destination featuring scenic beauty and great ethnic and cultural diversity.
On the 17th (Tue), get a taste of the local shopping with Union Square, take in the views from Golden Gate Bridge, and then visit The Castro. On the 18th (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: visit Chinatown, head off the coast to Alcatraz Island, and then take a leisurely stroll along Fisherman's Wharf.

While traveling from Modesto, expect much colder days and slightly colder nights in Big Sur, ranging from highs of 70°F to lows of 57°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 20th (Fri) early enough to catch the flight to San Clemente.
