Denver — 1 night

Aptly nicknamed the "Mile-High City," Denver sits at an altitude of 1,600 m (5,280 ft) above sea level, located right where the Great Plains give way to the Rocky Mountains.
Start off your visit on the 15th (Sun): see the interesting displays at Molly Brown House Museum, look and learn at Denver Museum of Nature & Science, and then don't miss a visit to 16th Street Mall. Keep things going the next day: glide through the air with a parasailing or paragliding tour, meet the residents at Denver Zoo, and then admire the natural beauty at Denver Botanic Gardens.

Drive from Denver to Buena Vista in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Expect little chillier evenings in Buena Vista when traveling from Denver in May, with lows around 34°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 17th (Tue) early enough to go by car to Colorado Springs.
