On the 27th (Fri), steep yourself in history at Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site and then stroll around Garden of the Gods. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: get your game on at Battlefield Colorado and then admire the majestic nature at Mueller State Park.

Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.

Ouray — 3 nights

Ouray is a Home Rule Municipality that is the county seat and the most populous city of Ouray County, Colorado, United States. Start off your visit on the 31st (Tue): tour the pleasant surroundings at Dennis Weaver Memorial Park and then trek along Yankee Boy Basin. Keep things going the next day: admire the sheer force of Uncompahgre Gorge, admire the sheer force of Bear Creek Falls, and then hike along Ice Lakes Trailhead.

Getting from Durango to Ouray by car takes about 2 hours. Other options: do a combination of shuttle and taxi; or take a shuttle. While traveling from Durango, expect slightly colder days and about the same nights in Ouray, ranging from highs of 74°F to lows of 52°F. On the 2nd (Thu), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
