Durango

Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Durango: Silverton (Idarado Mine & Million Dollar Highway), Ouray (Box Canyon Waterfall & Park & Off-Road Tours) and Mesa Verde National Park (Balcony House, Cliff Palace, &more). There's lots more to do: take a peaceful walk through San Juan National Forest, stop by Two Old Crows, take in the dramatic scenery at Bear Creek Falls, and take in the natural beauty of Bath House (Hot Springs) @ The Springs Resort & Spa.

To find more things to do, reviews, where to stay, and tourist information, you can read our Durango journey planner.

September in Durango sees daily highs of 77°F and lows of 44°F at night.
