One of the island of Hawaii's major towns, Hilo contains a mix of Asian and Polynesian cultures and is known for its proximity to a national park encompassing two active volcanoes.Visit Richardson Beach Park and Laupahoehoe Beach Park for some beach relaxation. Do some cultural sightseeing at Pacific Tsunami Museum and Liliuokalani Gardens. Go for a jaunt from Hilo to Pahoa to see Kapoho Tide Pools about 52 minutes away. There's still lots to do: step off the mainland to explore Coconut Island, browse the fresh offerings at Hilo Farmers Market, and admire the sheer force of Akaka Falls State Park.
