Kentucky’s largest city, Louisville, is best known as the home of the Kentucky Derby.
Popular historic sites such as Conrad-Caldwell House Museum (Conrad's Castle) and Zachary Taylor National Cemetery are in your itinerary. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like My Old Kentucky Home and 21c Museum Hotel. Get out of town with these interesting Louisville side-trips: Swope's Cars of Yesteryear Museum (in Elizabethtown), Limestone Branch Distillery (in Lebanon) and Bardstown (Barton 1792 Distillery & Old Bardstown Village Civil War Museum). There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at Dinosaur World, sample the fine beverages at Copper & Kings American Brandy Distillery, and explore the fascinating underground world of Onyx Cave.

New York City to Louisville is an approximately 5.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight; or drive. Traveling from New York City in October, plan for slightly colder nights in Louisville, with lows around 50°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Wed) early enough to drive to Lexington.

Known internationally as the "Horse Capital of the World," Lexington boasts a thriving economy resting largely on its thoroughbred racehorse industry.
Step off the beaten path and head to Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea and Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site. Popular historic sites such as Ashland: The Henry Clay Estate and Lexington Cemetery are in your itinerary. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Lexington: Four Roses Bourbon - Warehouse and Bottling Facility (in Coxs Creek), Frankfort (Daniel Boone's Grave & Salato Wildlife Education Center) and The Great American Dollhouse Museum (in Danville).
