Kentucky’s largest city, Louisville, is best known as the home of the Kentucky Derby.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Conrad-Caldwell House Museum (Conrad's Castle) and The Abbey of Gethsemani. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Angel's Envy Distillery and Dinosaur World. Venture out of the city with trips to Bardstown (Barton 1792 Distillery & My Old Kentucky Home), Swope's Cars of Yesteryear Museum (in Elizabethtown) and Onyx Cave (in Cave City). There's still lots to do: wander the streets of Old Louisville, sample the fine beverages at Limestone Branch Distillery, and admire the masterpieces at 21c Museum Hotel.

For reviews, more things to do, traveler tips, and more tourist information, you can read our Louisville trip planner .

Houston to Louisville is an approximately 5.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and bus; or drive. The time zone changes from Central Standard Time to Eastern Standard Time, which is usually a 1 hour difference. Prepare for slightly colder weather when traveling from Houston in May: high temperatures in Louisville hover around 77°F and lows are around 58°F. Known internationally as the "Horse Capital of the World," Lexington boasts a thriving economy resting largely on its thoroughbred racehorse industry.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Ashland: The Henry Clay Estate and Castle & Key Distillery. Visit Lexington Cemetery and Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site for their historical value. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Lexington: Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea (in Berea), Four Roses Bourbon - Warehouse and Bottling Facility (in Coxs Creek) and The Great American Dollhouse Museum (in Danville). There's lots more to do: sample the fine beverages at Bluegrass Distillers, experience rural life at Old Friends at Dream Chase Farm, savor the flavors at Food & Drink, and indulge your thirst for a good beer at West Sixth Brewing.
