Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
Step out of Custer to go to Hot Springs and see Mammoth Site of Hot Springs, which is approximately 42 minutes away. The adventure continues: immerse yourself in nature at Custer State Park, explore the wealth of natural beauty at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, take a memorable drive along Wildlife Loop Road, and take some stellar pictures from Breezy Point Picnic Area.
