Birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll

The largest city on the Mississippi River, Memphis bills itself as both the "Birthplace of Rock" and "Home of the Blues." With such a rich musical heritage, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Elvis Presley chose to live in Memphis during his later years.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Covington's Historic Square and Memphis Music. Let the collections at Graceland and National Civil Rights Museum - Lorraine Motel capture your imagination. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Memphis: Hampson Archeological Museum State Park (in Wilson), Oxford (Bailey's Woods Trail & Thacker Mountain Rail Trail) and Parkin Archeological State Park (in Parkin). Next up on the itinerary: steep yourself in history at Sun Studio, make a trip to The Peabody Ducks, examine the collection at Stax Museum of American Soul Music, and admire the masterpieces at Withers Collection Museum & Gallery.

To find photos, other places to visit, where to stay, and other tourist information, refer to the Memphis travel site.

In July, plan for daily highs up to 91°F, and evening lows to 74°F.
