The second largest city in Michigan and a hub of furniture manufacturing, Grand Rapids bears the nickname "Furniture City." However, the destination's original name came from the rapids of the Grand River that once ran through the downtown area.
Start off your visit on the 23rd (Mon): get to know the resident critters at John Ball Zoo, then look for all kinds of wild species at Blandford Nature Center, and then get to know the fascinating history of Heritage Hill Historic District. Here are some ideas for day two: see the sky in a new way at Grand Rapids Public Museum, look for all kinds of wild species at Calvin Ecosystem Preserve & Native Gardens, and then get your bearings at The Ruse.

Traverse City might be well known for its huge cherry industry, but its position along Grand Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan endows it with fine scenery and a wealth of outdoor attractions.
Kick off your visit on the 25th (Wed): trek along Empire Bluff Trail, then appreciate the extensive heritage of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and then sample the tasty concoctions at Lake Ann Brewing Company. On the next day, explore the landscape on two wheels at Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation Trails, take a memorable drive along Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, and then do a tasting at St. Ambrose Cellars.
