Oak Ridge — 2 nights

Oak Ridge is a city in Anderson and Roane counties in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Tennessee, about 25mi west of Knoxville. Change things up with a short trip to Cades Cove in Great Smoky Mountains National Park (about 1 hour away). There's still lots to do: get curious at American Museum of Science and Energy, hike along University of Tennessee Arboretum, walk around Haw Ridge Park, and stroll through Melton Lake Greenway.

Springfield to Oak Ridge is an approximately 9.5-hour car ride. You can also drive. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Springfield to Oak Ridge. In June, plan for daily highs up to 87°F, and evening lows to 66°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 8th (Wed) early enough to go by car to Stanton.

Stanton is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of Powell County, Kentucky, United States. Kick off your visit on the 9th (Thu): walk around Natural Bridge State Resort Park and then look for all kinds of wild species at Nada Tunnel.
