The Forest City

Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
We've included these beaches for you: Casco Bay and Gooch's Beach. Explore hidden gems such as Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse and Coastal Highway U.S. 1. Venture out of the city with trips to York Harbor (Cliff Walk & Wiggly Bridge), Wolfeboro (New Hampshire Boat Museum & Wright Museum of WWII) and Mount Major State Forest (in Alton Bay). There's lots more to do: do a tasting at Maine Mead Works, admire the natural beauty at Hamilton House, browse the collection at Tate House Museum, and sample the fine beverages at Maine Craft Distilling.
