For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Get some cultural insight at Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Gallery and Gallery Galleon. Visiting Secret Beach and Stand-Up Paddleboarding will get you outdoors. A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Fri): look for gifts at Tres Puertas Art Gallery & Blue Mermaid Gift Shop, get a taste of the local shopping with Playa Oeste Gallery, then see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, then kick back and relax at Crashboat Beach, and finally admire the masterpieces at Museo de Arte de Aguadilla y del Caribe. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: enjoy the sand and surf at Sandy Beach, enjoy the sea views from El Faro Lighthouse, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Domes Beach.
