Townsend — 4 nights

The quietest of the three main entrances to the World Heritage-listed national park encompassing part of the Great Smoky Mountains, Townsend is a low-key town.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Townsend: Deals Gap (in Robbinsville), The Lost Sea Adventure (in Sweetwater) and Cades Cove (in Great Smoky Mountains National Park). There's still lots to do: explore the fascinating underground world of Tuckaleechee Caverns, gear up at Mtn Trax, do a tasting at Cades Cove Cellars, and get engrossed in the history at Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center.
