A tiny town with big tourist appeal, Pigeon Forge bills itself as the "Center of Fun in the Smokies." Just a short drive from the national park protecting the diverse plant and animal life of the Great Smoky Mountains, the town features numerous places to visit, such as bars, restaurants, cafes, theaters, and shops.
Family-friendly places like Dollywood and Cades Cove will thrill your kids. Venture out of the city with trips to Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Abrams Falls Trail & Townsend Wye). There's lots more to do: take in the waterfront at The Island in Pigeon Forge, whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, trek along Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, and take in nature's colorful creations at Parrot Mountain & Gardens.

Indianapolis to Pigeon Forge is an approximately 6.5-hour car ride. You can also fly; or do a combination of bus, subway, and car. When traveling from Indianapolis in May, plan for somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Pigeon Forge: temperatures range from 79°F by day to 57°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 1st (Tue) early enough to drive to Gatlinburg.

The Gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains

Nestled in the lush, wooded forests of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg is Tennessee’s premier mountain resort destination.
Bring the kids along to River Rafting & Tubing and Chimneys Picnic Area. Change things up with a short trip to Zipline in Hartford (about 40 minutes away). There's lots more to do: admire nature's wide array of creatures at Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, take in the awesome beauty at Mount LeConte, take in the exciting artwork at Fowler's Clay Works, and admire the sheer force of Ramsey Cascades.

Gatlinburg is very close to Pigeon Forge. June in Gatlinburg sees daily highs of 86°F and lows of 66°F at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 4th (Fri) early enough to go by car back home.
