Although urban sprawl remains synonymous with Houston, most of the city's tourist attractions lie within the relatively small downtown area, surrounded by diverse neighborhoods housing the nation's biggest African-American, Asian-American, and Latino communities.
Kick off your visit on the 29th (Sun): take in the dramatic scenery at Water Wall and then have fun and explore at Children's Museum of Houston. Here are some ideas for day two: tee off at Hermann Park and then admire nature's wide array of creatures at Houston Zoo.

An old colonial city and a busy cruise ship port less than an hour's drive from Houston, Galveston sits on Galveston Island and serves as a popular vacation destination for both domestic and international travelers.
Start off your visit on the 31st (Tue): admire the natural beauty at Moody Gardens, then get to know the fascinating history of The Seawall, and then appreciate the extensive heritage of The Strand.

You can drive from Houston to Galveston in an hour. Alternatively, you can take a bus. When traveling from Houston in July, plan for a bit cooler days in Galveston, with highs around 90°F, while nights are about the same with lows around 80°F. On the 1st (Wed), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel to Corpus Christi.
