Providence has undergone a major upgrade in recent years, transforming from a rough-around-the-edges industrial city into an epicenter of culture.
Kick off your visit on the 3rd (Sun): pause for some photo ops at Plymouth Rock, examine the collection at Mystic Seaport Museum, and then explore the world behind art at RISD Museum. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: catch a live performance at Providence Performing Arts Center, meet the residents at Roger Williams Park Zoo, and then contemplate the long history of Olde Mistick Village.

Charlotte to Providence is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and bus; or drive. Prepare for slightly colder weather when traveling from Charlotte in May: high temperatures in Providence hover around 70°F and lows are around 49°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Mon) to allow time to drive to Salem.

Best known for its 1692 witch trials, Salem has a number of significant historical sites, a bustling downtown, and many witch-themed attractions.
On the 5th (Tue), stroll the grounds of Old Burying Point Cemetery, then examine the collection at Salem Witch Museum, then examine the collection at Peabody Essex Museum, and finally browse the exhibits of The House of the Seven Gables. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: walk around Salem Witch Trials Memorial, then appreciate the history behind Stickworks Statue - What the Birds Know - by Patrick Dougherty, and then see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour.

Getting from Providence to Salem by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a train; or take a bus. In May, plan for daily highs up to 67°F, and evening lows to 48°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Wed) early enough to go by car to Kennebunkport.
