Situated at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville is perhaps best known as the home of three of the United States' founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson.
On the 18th (Tue), shop like a local with C'ville Arts: A Cooperative Gallery, take in nature's colorful creations at Monticello, then steep yourself in history at Mulberry Row, then admire the landmark architecture of University of Virginia, and finally admire the masterpieces at Jefferson School African American Heritage Center.

Getting from Alexandria to Charlottesville by train takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: drive; or fly. Traveling from Alexandria in June, plan for a bit cooler nights in Charlottesville, with lows around 64°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 18th (Tue) so you can go by car to Williamsburg.
