The capital city of Virginia, Richmond has diverse architecture, a large collection of monuments, and world-class museums that reveal the city's important role in American history.
Get some cultural insight at Hollywood Cemetery and University of Virginia. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and James Monroe's Highland. Get out of town with these interesting Richmond side-trips: James Madison's Montpelier (in Montpelier Station) and Appomattox Court House National Historical Park (in Appomattox). And it doesn't end there: don't miss a visit to Carytown, pause for some serene contemplation at St. John's Episcopal Church, and take in the history at J. E. B Stuart Yellow Tavern Memorial.

On the 4th (Thu), examine the collection at Virginia Beach Surf & Rescue Museum, brush up on your military savvy at Military Aviation Museum, then stroll through Sandbridge Beach, and finally have some family-friendly fun at Nightmare Mansion. Famous for a wild breed of horses--Chincoteague Ponies--Chincoteague Island embraces the mystery of some of North America’s oldest inhabitants.
On the 6th (Sat), sample the tasty concoctions at Black Narrows Brewing, take an in-depth tour of Museum of Chincoteague, and then surround yourself with nature on a nature and wildlife tour.
