Williamsburg

Colonial Capital

Founded in 1632 as a fortified settlement on the high ground between two rivers, Williamsburg served as a colonial capital of Virginia for over 80 years.
Museum-lovers will appreciate Historic Jamestowne and St. Luke's Historic Church & Museum. Step out of the city life by going to Colonial Parkway and Colonial National Historical Park. Explore Williamsburg's surroundings by going to The Noland Trail (in Newport News), Richmond (Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, St. John's Episcopal Church, &more) and Cape Charles Beach (in Cape Charles). Plan for a day of cool, family-friendly fun on the 4th (Fri) at Water Country USA. There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Colonial Williamsburg, explore the world behind art at Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, take in the history at Yorktown Battlefield, and hike along Tyndall's Point Park.

To see other places to visit, traveler tips, where to stay, and more tourist information, use the Williamsburg road trip site.

In September, daily temperatures in Williamsburg can reach 84°F, while at night they dip to 66°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Fri) to allow enough time to travel back home.
