7 days in Yosemite National Park, South Lake Tahoe & Sonoma Itinerary

Kick off your visit on the 30th (Sun): explore and take pictures at Tioga Pass, take some stellar pictures from Yosemite, Tunnel View, then take in the dramatic natural features at Glacier Point, and finally take some stellar pictures from Washburn Point. On the 31st (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take in the dramatic scenery at Yosemite Falls, admire the sheer force of Vernal Fall, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Half Dome.

Las Vegas to Yosemite National Park is an approximately 6-hour combination of flight and car. You can also drive. Expect colder temperatures when traveling from Las Vegas in July; daily highs in Yosemite National Park reach 33°C and lows reach 9°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 1st (Tue) to allow time to travel to South Lake Tahoe.

On the 1st (Tue), hit the slopes at Rock House Discount Ski & Snowboard Rentals, then contemplate the waterfront views at Emerald Bay State Park, and then race across the water with a speed boat tour.

Use the Route module to find suitable travel options from Yosemite National Park to South Lake Tahoe. Expect a daytime high around 32°C in August, and nighttime lows around 7°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Sonoma.

Explore Sonoma's surroundings by going to Castello di Amorosa (in Calistoga), Modus Operandi Cellars (in St. Helena) and Muir Woods National Monument (in Mill Valley). Dedicate the 3rd (Thu) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. You can drive from South Lake Tahoe to Sonoma in 3.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of bus, train, and taxi; or take a bus. Plan for somewhat warmer nights when traveling from South Lake Tahoe in August since evenings lows in Sonoma dip to 15°C. You will have some time to spend on the 5th (Sat) before leaving for home.
