The City of Lights and Flowers

Home to nearly half of Alaska's population, the port city of Anchorage covers a staggering area of over 4,900 sq km (1,900 sq mi) surrounded by mountains.
Your list of things to see and do now includes Alaska ATV Adventures, Thunderbird Falls, Point Woronzof, and other attractions. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Tony Knowles Coastal Trail and Earthquake Park. Step off the beaten path and head to Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum and Byron Glacier Trail. Get out of town with these interesting Anchorage side-trips: Palmer (Independence Mine State Historical Park & Musk Ox Farm). Make the 4th (Sun) an awe-inspiring day at Chugach State Park. There's lots more to do: identify plant and animal life at Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, take an in-depth tour of The Roundhouse at Alyeska, explore the activities along Eagle and Symphony Lakes, and explore the striking landscape at Beluga Point.

To see maps, more things to do, reviews, and other tourist information, you can read our Anchorage trip builder website.

In October in Anchorage, expect temperatures between 45°F during the day and 32°F at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 4th (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
