Mile-High City

Aptly nicknamed the "Mile-High City," Denver sits at an altitude of 1,600 m (5,280 ft) above sea level, located right where the Great Plains give way to the Rocky Mountains.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey Tour and Cherry Creek Trail. Take a break from the city and head to Robert Clement Park and Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center. Get out of town with these interesting Denver side-trips: Rock Park (in Castle Rock), Castlewood Canyon State Park (in Franktown) and Aurora Reservoir (in Aurora). The adventure continues: examine the collection at Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, take in the dramatic natural features at Roxborough State Park, contemplate the long history of Denver Union Station, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Alderfer/Three Sisters Park.
