Located just 140 km (90 mi) from Cuba, Key West is an island only about 6.4 km (4 mi) long and 1.6 km (1 mi) wide.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Key West Garden Club and Spas. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Key West: The Turtle Hospital (in Marathon) and Bahia Honda State Park (in Big Pine Key). There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, brush up on your military savvy at U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Ingham Maritime Museum, identify plant and animal life at Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory, and steep yourself in history at West Martello Tower.

You can do a combination of taxi and ferry from Sanibel Island to Key West in 5 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of taxi and bus. Traveling from Sanibel Island in January, Key West is a bit warmer at night with lows of 66°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 30th (Sat) to allow time to travel back home.
