Located just 140 km (90 mi) from Cuba, Key West is an island only about 6.4 km (4 mi) long and 1.6 km (1 mi) wide.
Spend the 23rd (Sun) exploring nature at Dry Tortugas National Park. The adventure continues: see the interesting displays at The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, steep yourself in history at Truman Little White House, take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports, and don't miss a visit to Duval Street.

Washington DC to Key West is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of taxi and bus. Plan for somewhat warmer nights when traveling from Washington DC in August since evenings lows in Key West dip to 81°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 26th (Wed) early enough to go by car to Marathon.

Heart of the Florida Keys

A tiny city just 16 km (10 mi) long, Marathon is spread across several islands in the middle of the Florida Keys.
On the 27th (Thu), enjoy the sand and surf at Bahia Honda State Park, discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, and then kick back and relax at Sombrero Beach.

Traveling by car from Key West to Marathon takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In August in Marathon, expect temperatures between 92°F during the day and 80°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Thu) to allow time to drive to Key Largo.
