Gatlinburg — 3 nights

Nestled in the lush, wooded forests of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg is Tennessee’s premier mountain resort destination.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Laurel Falls and Roaring Fork. Attractions like Grotto Falls Parking and Alum Cave Trail make great kid-friendly stops. There's still lots to do: admire the sheer force of Cataract Falls, see the interesting displays at Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum, head outdoors with Outdoor Activities, and find something for the whole family at Ripley's Mountain Coaster.

To see ratings, photos, maps, and other tourist information, read our Gatlinburg tour itinerary planning app.

Detroit to Gatlinburg is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus and car. When traveling from Detroit in June, plan for a bit warmer days in Gatlinburg, with highs around 86°F, while nights are about the same with lows around 66°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 28th (Tue) early enough to go by car to Pigeon Forge.

Just a short drive from the national park protecting the diverse plant and animal life of the Great Smoky Mountains, the town features numerous places to visit, such as bars, restaurants, cafes, theaters, and shops.
You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Smoky Mountain Deer Farm & Exotic Petting Zoo and Arcade City. Step off the beaten path and head to Rockin' Raceway Arcade and Dollywood's Splash Country Water Adventure Park. Take a break from Pigeon Forge with a short trip to Foothills Parkway Southwest Parking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, about 40 minutes away. The adventure continues: find something for the whole family at Pigeon Forge Snow, head outdoors with Outdoor Activities, stop by Three Bears General Store, and don't miss a visit to The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel.
