Albany is the capital of the U.S. state of New York and the seat of Albany County. Head to Troy Waterfront Farmers' Market and Crossgatesfor plenty of shopping. Museum-lovers will appreciate Albany Institute of History & Art and Stephen and Harriet Myers House. And it doesn't end there: identify plant and animal life at Albany Pine Bush Preserve, steep yourself in history at Shaker Heritage Society, admire the landmark architecture of New York State Education Department, and get engrossed in the history at Schuyler Mansion.

Durham to Albany is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Prepare for slightly colder weather when traveling from Durham in September: high temperatures in Albany hover around 76°F and lows are around 54°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 12th (Sun) so you can go by car to Rhinebeck.

Rhinebeck is a village in the town of Rhinebeck in Dutchess County, New York, United States. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Wilderstein Historic Site and FASNY Museum of Firefighting. Get outdoors at The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail and Ferncliff Forest. Get out of town with these interesting Rhinebeck side-trips: Millbrook Vineyards & Winery (in Millbrook) and Farm to Glass Tours (in Hudson).
