Puako is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hawaii County, Hawaii, United States. Start off your visit on the 9th (Thu): enjoy the sand and surf at Anaehoomalu and then discover the deep blue sea with Hawai'i Surf and Kayak. Keep things going the next day: steep yourself in history at Puukohola National Historic Park, then enjoy the sand and surf at Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area, and then tee off at Mauna Lani Resort .

Newark to Puako is an approximately 13-hour flight. Traveling from Newark to Puako, you'll gain 5 hours due to the time zone difference. One of the island of Hawaii's major towns, Hilo contains a mix of Asian and Polynesian cultures and is known for its proximity to a national park encompassing two active volcanoes.
Explore Hilo's surroundings by going to Jagger Museum (in Volcano), Kailua-Kona (Kipuka Pu’u Huluhulu, Mauna Kea, &more) and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (Kipuka Puaulu (Bird Park) Trail, Kīlauea, &more). You can drive from Puako to Hilo in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In March, plan for daily highs up to 80°F, and evening lows to 66°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Thu) so you can fly back home.

The Big Island
