Horse Capital of the World
Known internationally as the "Horse Capital of the World," Lexington boasts a thriving economy resting largely on its thoroughbred racehorse industry.Museum-lovers will appreciate Ashland: The Henry Clay Estate and Aviation Museum of Kentucky. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Distillery Tours and The Great American Dollhouse Museum. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Lexington: Old Fort Harrod State Park (in Harrodsburg), Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site (in Perryville) and Frankfort (Three Boys Farm Distillery & Salato Wildlife Education Center). There's still lots to do: explore the different monuments and memorials at Lexington Cemetery, contemplate the long history of Waveland State Historic Site, trek along Legacy Trail, and sample the tasty concoctions at West Sixth Brewing.
