Baton Rouge is the capital of the U.S. Explore Baton Rouge's surroundings by going to Nottoway Plantation (in White Castle), Madewood Plantation (in Napoleonville) and Vacherie (Laura Plantation: Louisiana's Creole Heritage Site & Oak Alley Plantation). There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Houmas House Plantation and Gardens, make a trip to Le Vieux Village de Poste des Opelousas, appreciate the extensive heritage of Vermilionville, and explore the activities along Lake Martin.
