Baton Rouge is the capital of the U.S. Change things up with these side-trips from Baton Rouge: Nottoway Plantation (in White Castle), Vacherie (Laura Plantation: Louisiana's Creole Heritage Site & Oak Alley Plantation) and Lake Martin (in Breaux Bridge). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Houmas House Plantation and Gardens, steep yourself in history at Madewood Plantation, pause for some serene contemplation at St. Joseph Cathedral, and walk around North Boulevard Town Square.
