Hana

Hana is one of the most isolated communities in Hawaii, with a permanent population of just over 1,000 people.
Start off your visit on the 27th (Sun): take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Haleakala Crater, stroll the grounds of Wananalua Congregational Church, and then kick back and relax at Red Sand Beach - Kaihalulu Beach. Here are some ideas for day two: enjoy the sand and surf at Honokalani Black Sand Beach, then identify plant and animal life at Pools at Ohe'o, and then explore by horseback at Pipiwai Trail.

Chicago to Hana is an approximately 13-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 4 hours traveling from Chicago to Hana. Traveling from Chicago in December, expect Hana to be much warmer, temps between 82°F and 66°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Mon) early enough to drive to Kihei.

Kihei

Stretching over 9.7 km (6 mi) of pristine south Maui coastline, Kihei is the island's driest and sunniest region, making it a perfect location for water activities and beach leisure.
Explore hidden gems such as Maui Brewing Company and Makena Beach. We've included these beaches for you: Wailea Beach and Keawakapu Beach. Venture out of the city with trips to Lahaina (River Rafting & Tubing & Kapalua Coastal Trail) and Kapalua Beach (in Kapalua). There's still lots to do: kick back and relax at Kamaole Beach Park II, tour the pleasant surroundings at Kalepolepo Beach Park, and get some jogging in at Wailea Beach Path.

Drive from Hana to Kihei in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. Expect a daytime high around 82°F in December, and nighttime lows around 66°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 2nd (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
