Birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll

The largest city on the Mississippi River, Memphis bills itself as both the "Birthplace of Rock" and "Home of the Blues." With such a rich musical heritage, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Elvis Presley chose to live in Memphis during his later years.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Elvis Presley Birthplace & Museum and Elmwood Cemetery. Get a sense of the local culture at Stax Museum of American Soul Music and Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center. Get out of town with these interesting Memphis side-trips: Horseshoe Tunica (in Tunica), Tupelo Automobile Museum (in Tupelo) and Clarksdale (The Delta Blues Museum, Cat Head Delta Blues & Folk Art, &more). There's lots more to do: explore the world behind art at Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art, pause for some photo ops at National Civil Rights Museum - Lorraine Motel, contemplate the long history of Rowan Oak, and examine the collection at Metal Museum.

To find photos, other places to visit, more things to do, and other tourist information, refer to the Memphis trip planning website.

In September in Memphis, expect temperatures between 87°F during the day and 68°F at night.
