Florida’s mecca of fun in the sun, the lively tropical metropolis of Miami is one of the world’s top vacation spots.
Kids will enjoy South Beach and Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. Venture out of the city with trips to Florida Airboating (in Boca Raton) and Calusa Coffee Roasters (in Fort Lauderdale). There's lots more to do: take a stroll through Lincoln Road, buy something for everyone on your list at Bayside Marketplace, make a trip to Collins Avenue, and pause for some serene contemplation at St Patrick Catholic Church.

Detroit to Miami is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus and subway. In July, Miami is somewhat warmer than Detroit - with highs of 91°F and lows of 78°F. You will have some time to spend on the 14th (Wed) before leaving for Key Largo.

Diving Capital of the World

The northernmost island of the Florida Keys, Key Largo provides stunning scenery, a number of watersports opportunities, and plenty of areas to relax on vacation.
Attractions like Scuba & Snorkeling and Kingdom Escape Games make great kid-friendly stops. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Key Largo: Marathon (Sombrero Beach & The Turtle Hospital) and Bahia Honda State Park (in Big Pine Key). There's still lots to do: immerse yourself in nature at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, have fun at Kiffney's Firearms and Indoor Range, identify plant and animal life at Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center, and see the interesting displays at Florida Keys History & Discovery Center.

Getting from Miami to Key Largo by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a bus. In July, daytime highs in Key Largo are 89°F, while nighttime lows are 76°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 18th (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
