Fewer than 400 people call Keystone home year-round, but the population explodes in summer when crowds flock to nearby Mount Rushmore.
Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Tue): admire all the interesting features of Iron Mountain Road, then stroll through Presidential Trail, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, and finally take an unforgettable tour with Black Hills Helicopters. On your second day here, discover the riches below the earth's surface at Big Thunder Gold Mine, take in the dramatic natural features at Needles Eye Tunnel, then explore the activities along Sylvan Lake, and finally stop by Granite Sports.

Omaha to Keystone is an approximately 6.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus and taxi. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 1 hour traveling from Omaha to Keystone. South Dakota's second-largest city, Rapid City has for many years served as a gateway to the West.
Start off your visit on the 24th (Thu): meet the residents at Reptile Gardens, then identify plant and animal life at Bear Country USA, then stop by Alex Johnson Mercantile, and finally take a stroll through Downtown Rapid City. Keep things going the next day: stroll the grounds of Mount Moriah Cemetery, cruise along Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway, and then don't miss a visit to Dinosaur Park.
