The glaciers from which Glacier National Park takes its name mostly dissipated eons ago, but they left behind a scoured landscape of high and steep mountain peaks, sparkling lakes, lush alpine meadows, and thick forests.
On the 31st (Sat), hike along Piegan Pass and then explore the activities along Swiftcurrent Lake. On the 1st (Sun), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: trek along Grinnell Glacier, trek along Highline Trail, and then hike along Iceberg Lake Trail.

Springfield to Glacier National Park is an approximately 9-hour combination of flight and taxi. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus and train. The time zone changes from Central Standard Time to Mountain Standard Time, which is usually a -1 hour difference. Plan for little chillier nights when traveling from Springfield in August since evenings lows in Glacier National Park dip to 48°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 1st (Sun) early enough to go by car to Great Falls.

Great Falls is a city in and the county seat of Cascade County, Montana, United States. Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Mon): immerse yourself in nature at Giant Springs State Park, then catch a live performance at Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, then get engrossed in the history at Ursuline Centre, and finally pause for some serene contemplation at St. Ann Cathedral.

In September, daily temperatures in Great Falls can reach 71°F, while at night they dip to 44°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Mon) so you can go by car to Gardiner.
