Billings is the largest city in the state of Montana, and is the principal city of the Billings Metropolitan Area with a population of 166,855.Billings is located in the south-eastern portion of the state and is the seat of Yellowstone County, which had a 2015 population of 157,048. Boston to Billings is an approximately 8-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and bus. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Mountain Standard Time (MST) is minus 2 hours. Traveling from Boston in August, Billings is a bit cooler at night with lows of 58°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Sat) early enough to drive to West Yellowstone.

The town of West Yellowstone has served as a gateway to Yellowstone National Park since the early 1900s.
On the 11th (Sun), take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Two Top, identify plant and animal life at Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center, and then surround yourself with nature on a nature and wildlife tour. On the 12th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: see what you can catch with a fishing tour, then take a pleasant ride with a tour on horseback, and then steep yourself in history at Earthquake Lake.

Traveling by car from Billings to West Yellowstone takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or do a combination of bus and shuttle. When traveling from Billings in August, plan for slightly colder days and much colder nights in West Yellowstone: temperatures range from 75°F by day to 37°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 12th (Mon) so you can drive to Missoula.

Kick off your visit on the 14th (Wed): admire the sheer force of Virginia Falls, take in the dramatic scenery at St.Mary Falls, then cruise along Going-to-the-Sun Road, and finally hike along Highline Trail.
