Many residents have shunned fast-paced city living for Taos's laid-back vibe and blend of Spanish, Native American, and Anglo cultures.
Kick off your visit on the 8th (Sun): soar above the sights with a balloon tour, examine the collection at Millicent Rogers Museum, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at San Francisco de Assisi Mission Church, and finally let the river carry you with a rafting and tubing tour. On the next day, look for all kinds of wild species at Wild Rivers Recreation Area, trot along with a tour on horseback, and then examine the collection at La Hacienda del los Martinez.

Albuquerque remains one of the state's secret jewels, as its tourist attractions are often overshadowed by the more popular holiday destination of Santa Fe.
On the 13th (Fri), stop by Blue Portal, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at San Felipe de Neri Church, then wander the streets of Albuquerque Old Town, and finally take an in-depth tour of Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum.

Traveling by bus from Santa Fe to Albuquerque takes an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a train. Traveling from Santa Fe in September, Albuquerque is somewhat warmer at night with lows of 60°F.
