Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site and The Myrtles Plantation. Visit Evergreen Plantation and Houmas House Plantation and Gardens for their historical value. Get out of town with these interesting New Orleans side-trips: Whitney Plantation (in Wallace), Louisiana's Old State Capitol (in Baton Rouge) and Oak Alley Plantation (in Vacherie). Next up on the itinerary: appreciate the extensive heritage of Garden District, explore the different monuments and memorials at Lake Lawn Metairie, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Immaculate Conception Church, and don't miss a visit to French Quarter.

To see where to stay, more things to do, maps, and other tourist information, go to the New Orleans trip itinerary tool.

In March, plan for daily highs up to 61°F, and evening lows to 61°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
