Asheville nestles between two major mountain ranges in the scenic western section of North Carolina.
Attractions like Food Tours and Blue Ridge Pkwy make great kid-friendly stops. Change things up with these side-trips from Asheville: Crystal Mountain Gem Mine (in Brevard), Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park (in Chimney Rock) and Zipline (in Lake Lure). There's much more to do: take in nature's colorful creations at The North Carolina Arboretum, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Basilica of Saint Lawrence, view the masterpieces at Lexington Glassworks, and examine the collection at The Folk Art Center.

Fort Lauderdale to Asheville is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and bus. Traveling from Fort Lauderdale in November, expect Asheville to be colder, temps between 59°F and 36°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Tue) to allow enough time to drive to Blowing Rock.

Blowing Rock

Blowing Rock is a town in Watauga and Caldwell counties in the U.S. Start off your visit on the 25th (Wed): see Appalachians Outdoor Adventures, then kick your exploration up a notch at Hawksnest Snow Tubing and Zipline, and then stop by Bolick and Traditions Pottery. On the 26th (Thu), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: examine the collection at Hickory Ridge Living History Museum, go deep underground at Foggy Mountain Gem Mine, then ride a horse along Moses H. Cone Memorial Park, and finally take a pleasant ride with Vx3 Trail Rides.

The center of Cherokee culture in the eastern part of the country, the town named after this Native American tribe serves as a base camp for hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Start off your visit on the 27th (Fri): examine the collection at Museum of the Cherokee Indian, then take in the dramatic scenery at Mingo Falls, then trot along with a tour on horseback, and finally view the masterpieces at Dogwood Crafters.
