Honolulu — 7 nights

In many ways much more Asian than American, Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and its center of government, transportation, commerce, and tourism.
Change things up with these side-trips from Honolulu: Waimea Bay (in Haleiwa), Kailua Beach Park (in Kailua) and Pu’u O Mahuka Heiau State Monument (in Pupukea). There's much more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Waikiki Beach, see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, browse the different shops at Ala Moana Center, and go for a walk through Diamond Head State Monument.

To find where to stay, more things to do, maps, and tourist information, read Honolulu trip planner.

Sydney, Australia to Honolulu is an approximately 13.5-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 20 hours traveling from Sydney to Honolulu. In June, Honolulu is much warmer than Sydney - with highs of 35°C and lows of 27°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 16th (Thu) to allow time for the flight back home.

The Gathering Place
A top cultural and vacation destination within the Hawaiian Islands, Oahu is home to over 85 percent of the state's population. Aptly nicknamed the "Gathering Place," the island is truly at the heart of Hawaii, featuring the busy city of Honolulu and its surrounding districts. Visitors to Oahu can enjoy all the modern conveniences of a large city, while remaining within walking distance of secluded beaches, picturesque parks, high mountain peaks, and quaint little towns. To experience the laid-back side of Hawaii, take a trip away from the tourist hotspot of Waikiki, the island's most crowded neighborhood.
