A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Start off your visit on the 24th (Sat): take in the dramatic scenery at Multnomah Falls and then look for gifts at Powell's City of Books. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: make a trip to Pittock Mansion and then browse the eclectic array of goods at Portland Saturday Market.

Head to Bruce's Candy Kitchen and Adelaide's Coffee House / Tapestry Rose Yarn Shopfor plenty of shopping. Get a sense of the local culture at Flavel House Museum and Columbia River Maritime Museum. Venture out of the city with trips to Long Beach (in Long Beach), Jack's Country Store (in Ocean Park) and Cannon Beach (in Cannon Beach). There's still lots to do: stop by Astoria Sunday Market, admire the majestic nature at Fort Stevens State Park, appreciate the history behind Astoria Column, and view the masterpieces at Don Nisbett Art Gallery.

You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Nye Beach and Ainslee's Salt Water Taffy. Visit Heceta Head Lighthouse and Yaquina Head Lighthouse for their historical value. When in Newport, make a side trip to see Cape Perpetua Visitor Center - Siuslaw National Forest in Yachats, approximately Yachats away.
