Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Start off your visit on the 26th (Sat): walk around Kerry Park and then take in the waterfront at Hiram M. Chittenden Locks.

An old logging town at the crux of the high desert and ponderosa pine forest, Bend melds a love of the outdoors with cosmopolitan flair.
On the 27th (Sun), take in the dramatic natural features at Balancing Rocks, then get a new perspective on nature at High Desert Museum, and then admire the majestic nature at Smith Rock State Park. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 28th (Mon): trek along Pilot Butte State Scenic Viewpoint, sample the tasty concoctions at 10 Barrel Brewery, and then get impressive views of Newberry National Volcanic Monument.

You can fly from Seattle to Bend in 4.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of flight and bus. Traveling from Seattle in October, expect little chillier with lows of 37°F in Bend. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Mon) early enough to drive to Newport.

A town that survives on the sea, Newport's population of just over 10,000 supports a healthy commercial fishing industry.
On the 29th (Tue), stroll through Nye Beach, then visit a coastal fixture at Yaquina Head Lighthouse, then look for all kinds of wild species at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, and finally hike along Ocean to Bay Trail. Here are some ideas for day two: admire the majestic nature at Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area, immerse yourself in nature at Cape Perpetua Visitor Center - Siuslaw National Forest, and then enjoy the sea views from Heceta Head Lighthouse.
