Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Kick off your visit on the 24th (Wed): take in panoramic vistas at Sky View Observatory and then explore and take pictures at Hiram M. Chittenden Locks.

Houston to Seattle is an approximately 7-hour combination of bus and flight. You can also fly; or drive. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 2 hours traveling from Houston to Seattle. Astoria, named for famed fur trader John Jacob Astor, resides near the mouth of the Columbia River.
Start off your visit on the 25th (Thu): explore the activities along Columbia River Maritime Museum, pause for some photo ops at Astoria Column, and then stroll through Cannon Beach. Keep things going the next day: examine the collection at Flavel House Museum, take in the views from Astoria-Megler Bridge, and then admire the majestic nature at Ecola State Park.

Traveling by car from Seattle to Astoria takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train, taxi, and bus; or do a combination of flight and bus. Traveling from Seattle in July, things will get little chillier in Astoria: highs are around 69°F and lows about 55°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 26th (Fri) to allow time to drive to Newport.
