The heart of Pennsylvania's famous "Dutch Country," Lancaster is one of the nation's oldest inland cities, founded in 1730.

Traveling by train from Philadelphia to Lancaster takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Philadelphia in July, Lancaster is little chillier at night with lows of 66°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 28th (Sun) early enough to go by car to Gettysburg.

Located near the memorial park marking the site of one of the largest Civil War battles, the town of Gettysburg sits in a landscape of rolling green hills with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance.
Start off your visit on the 29th (Mon): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, contemplate the long history of High Water Mark of the Rebellion Monument, then pause for some photo ops at 12th & 44th New York Infantry Monument, then witness the site of a historic battle at Big Round Top, and finally take in the history at East Cavalry Battlefield.

Getting from Lancaster to Gettysburg by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of train and bus. July in Gettysburg sees daily highs of 84°F and lows of 66°F at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 29th (Mon) so you can go by car to Harpers Ferry.

With a population of less than 300, Harpers Ferry is as quaint as they come.
On the 30th (Tue), don't miss a visit to White Hall Tavern, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Ruins of St. John's Episcopal Church, explore the different monuments and memorials at Harper Cemetery, then contemplate the long history of Tolson's Chapel, and finally take an in-depth tour of Washington County Rural Heritage Museum. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: contemplate the waterfront views at Antietam Creek, then gain insight at Shepherd University, and then get great views at Split Rock Overlook.
