A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Start off your visit on the 1st (Wed): see the interesting displays at Portland Art Museum, then admire the striking features of Vista House, and then contemplate the long history of Columbia River Highway.
