A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Cannon Beach and Ecola State Park. Visit Hug Point State Recreation Site and Short Sands Beach for some beach relaxation. Get out of town with these interesting Portland side-trips: Seaside Civic & Convention Center (in Seaside), Wheeler Station Antiques (in Wheeler) and The Myrtlewood Factory Outlet (in Garibaldi). There's still lots to do: admire all the interesting features of Astoria Column, buy something for everyone on your list at Washington Square, stop by Powell's City of Books, and see the interesting displays at Columbia River Maritime Museum.

Start off your visit on the 29th (Fri): explore the wide array of goods at Nordstrom, explore the wide array of goods at Nordstrom Rack, then get a taste of the local shopping with Pike Place Market, then admire the masterpieces at Chihuly Garden and Glass, and finally take in panoramic vistas at Space Needle.
